Chemical engineering is about turning raw materials into useful products at scale: fuels, medicines, fertilisers, plastics, paints, food and much more. It combines chemistry, physics, mathematics and engineering design, and its graduates work in some of the largest industries in the country.
In Bangalore, only a handful of colleges offer BE Chemical Engineering, and several of them are among the best in the state. Here is what you need to know for 2027.
What you study
Core subjects include chemical process calculations, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, process control, and plant and process design. Labs and an industrial training or internship are a big part of the course.
Bangalore colleges offering BE Chemical Engineering
| College | Area |
|---|---|
| RV College of Engineering (RVCE) | Mysore Road |
| BMS College of Engineering (BMSCE) | Basavanagudi |
| MSRIT (Ramaiah Institute of Technology) | Mathikere |
| Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering (DSCE) | Kumaraswamy Layout |
| MVJ College of Engineering | Whitefield |
Intake is limited and changes every year, so contact us to confirm 2027 seats. For a side-by-side look at the top three, read RVCE vs BMSCE vs MSRIT. College-specific guides: MSRIT and DSCE.
How admission works
- Check eligibility: pass in 2nd PUC or Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics plus Chemistry or another eligible subject, usually with at least 45% (40% for reserved categories).
- Choose your route: KCET for government quota seats, COMEDK for private college seats, or management quota for remaining seats. Read more in exams for Bangalore engineering colleges.
- Shortlist and apply early. With only a few colleges offering the branch, seats can go quickly.
- Prepare documents and pay through official channels. See the documents checklist.
Chemical engineering management quota fees are usually lower than CSE fees at the same college, but they vary and change every year. Contact us for updated details, or start with our management quota fees overview.
Career scope
- Oil, gas and petrochemicals: refinery and plant operations, process engineering and safety roles.
- Pharmaceuticals and specialty chemicals: production, process development and quality roles.
- Fertilisers, paints, polymers and FMCG: manufacturing and process optimisation.
- Energy and environment: water treatment, pollution control and clean energy projects.
- Public sector undertakings: many PSUs in the energy and fertiliser sectors recruit chemical engineers through GATE.
- Process design and simulation: engineering consultancies use process simulation software heavily, a valuable skill to learn during the degree.
- Higher studies: MTech, MS or MBA, and research in materials, energy or biochemical engineering.
Is chemical engineering right for you?
Choose chemical engineering if you enjoy chemistry and mathematics, like understanding how things are made, and are open to plant or field work, especially early in your career. If you lean towards biology, compare it with our Biotechnology guide. For other core branches, see Civil and Mechanical.
