Where you study matters more than most families expect. A two hour daily commute across Bangalore traffic eats into study time, sleep and energy for four years. That is why many parents now ask us a simple question: “Which are the good engineering colleges near our side of the city?”
If you live in or near Hebbal, Yelahanka, Mathikere, Jalahalli, Vidyaranyapura or along the Airport Road corridor, North Bangalore has a strong cluster of engineering colleges. This guide covers the main ones for 2027 admission, how to reach them, the branches they offer and how admission works.
Quick comparison
| College | Area | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| MSRIT (Ramaiah Institute of Technology), est. 1962 | Mathikere | Top-tier brand, strong placements |

1. MSRIT (Ramaiah Institute of Technology), Mathikere
Founded in 1962, MSRIT sits in MSR Nagar, Mathikere, close to the IISc and Yeshwanthpur side. It is one of the most sought after engineering colleges in the city, and its CSE, ISE, ECE and AI&ML seats fill early in every admission route. If North Bangalore is home, MSRIT is usually the first name on the list. Read our full MSRIT direct admission guide.
2. BMSIT&M, Yelahanka
BMS Institute of Technology and Management was set up in 2002 at Avalahalli, off Doddaballapura Main Road in Yelahanka. It is part of the BMS group and offers CSE, AI&ML, CS and Business Systems, ECE, EEE, Mechanical and Civil among others. It has become a popular choice for students who want the BMS brand without the competition of BMSCE. See our BMSIT admission guide.
3. NMIT, Yelahanka
Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology was established in 2001 at Govindapura, near Yelahanka. It is close to BMSIT, so families often compare the two directly. Our DSCE vs BMSIT vs NMIT comparison breaks this down branch by branch.
4. Sir M Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology, Airport Road
Sir MVIT was started in 1986 by the Sri Krishnadevaraya Educational Trust and is located at Krishnadevarayanagar, Hunasamaranahalli, on International Airport Road. It is affiliated to VTU and was accredited with NAAC A grade in 2023. Branches include CSE, ISE, ECE, EEE, Mechanical, Civil, Biotechnology and Electronics and Telecommunication. It suits students living towards Yelahanka, Devanahalli or the airport side.
5. Atria Institute of Technology, Hebbal
Atria was established in 2000 at Anandnagar, Hebbal, next to Baptist Hospital. It is VTU affiliated and offers CSE, CS Design, ISE, ECE, AI&ML, Data Science, Civil and Mechanical. Its biggest advantage is location: it is easy to reach from RT Nagar, Sanjaynagar, Hebbal and much of central North Bangalore.
6. Acharya Institute of Technology, Soladevanahalli
Acharya Institute of Technology is located at Soladevanahalli on the north western edge of the city. It offers a large set of programmes including CSE, CSE (Data Science), ISE, AI&ML, ECE, EEE, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Aeronautical, Robotics and AI, Biotechnology and Civil. It is a good option for students who want a less common branch such as Aeronautical or Mechatronics.
How admission works at these colleges
All six colleges admit students through three main routes:
- KCET for Karnataka government quota seats.
- COMEDK for private college seats open to students from all states. Read COMEDK rank vs marks to estimate where you stand.
- Management quota for the remaining seats, based on availability and eligibility. See our guide on management quota fees in Bangalore.
Fees and seat availability change every year and vary by branch, so we do not publish fixed numbers here. Contact us for updated details for 2027.
How to pick between them
- Branch first, then college. A branch you enjoy at a good college often beats a branch you dislike at a slightly bigger name. Our CSE vs AI&ML vs Data Science guide can help.
- Check the real commute. Visit at peak hour once before deciding.
- Keep two backups. If MSRIT does not work out, BMSIT or NMIT are natural next options in the same zone.
- Have documents ready early. See the documents required for management quota.
