Most students walk out of the COMEDK UGET exam with one number in their head: their expected score. The question that follows immediately is the practical one. What does that score actually get me?
This page answers it score band by score band. For each band you will find the approximate rank it converts to, the colleges realistically in reach for CSE, the branches that open up if CSE does not, and what to do next if the answer is not what you hoped. If you want the underlying conversion logic and the full table in one place, read our COMEDK rank vs marks guide alongside this page.
Before You Use These Bands: Three Caveats
- COMEDK UGET is scored out of 180, with 60 questions each in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
- Your rank is relative, not absolute. It depends entirely on how the other 65,000 to 75,000 candidates performed that year. A harder paper pushes the same marks to a better rank.
- All figures below are for the General Merit category and are based on recent counselling patterns. Reserved category candidates get relaxed cutoffs at every band. Treat these as planning estimates, not promises.
140 Marks and Above: Rank Under 500
Approximate rank: under 100 for 160 plus, roughly 300 to 500 in the 140 to 150 band.
What you can realistically get: this is the top of the pool. RVCE CSE comes into reach, and MSRIT CSE is comfortable. Effectively any branch at any COMEDK college is open to you.
What to do: fill your option list ambitiously in round one. Do not waste a high rank by being conservative. Your only real decision is RVCE versus MSRIT versus a preferred branch, and that is a decision about campus, location and branch fit rather than about access.
130 to 140 Marks: Rank Roughly 800 to 1,300
What you can realistically get: MSRIT CSE is well within reach, and BMSCE CSE closes in this range. RVCE opens up for branches other than CSE.
What to do: this band rewards careful option ordering. Put MSRIT and BMSCE CSE at the top, and back them with RVCE ISE or ECE rather than dropping straight to a lower tier college for CSE. A strong branch at a top college usually beats CSE two tiers down.
120 to 130 Marks: Rank Roughly 1,300 to 2,500
What you can realistically get: BMSCE CSE is borderline at this rank. BMSCE ISE and ECE are more attainable, and DSCE CSE comes comfortably into range.
What to do: this is the most common band among serious applicants and it is where planning matters most. Fill BMSCE CSE as a stretch option, but build a genuine second and third layer beneath it. If CSE at a top three college is non negotiable for you, this is the band where a parallel BMSCE direct admission or MSRIT direct admission application starts to make real sense, because merit allotment will be tight.
110 to 120 Marks: Rank Roughly 2,500 to 5,000
What you can realistically get: CSE at DSCE, BIT or NMIT. At BMSCE, branches other than CSE and ISE remain accessible.
What to do: decide what you are actually optimising for. If it is the branch, take CSE at a good mid tier college. If it is the college name and placement ecosystem, take a core or electronics branch at a top tier college. Both are defensible, but families who refuse to choose between them are the ones who end up with neither.
100 to 110 Marks: Rank Roughly 5,000 to 8,000
What 100 marks gets you specifically: 100 marks sits right at the boundary of this band, typically converting to a rank in the region of 5,000 to 8,000, sometimes drifting past 8,000 in an easier paper year. Colleges such as BIT, BMSIT, NMIT and JSS Academy of Technical Education become realistic for CSE and ISE. RVCE, MSRIT and BMSCE CSE are out of reach through merit at this rank.
What to do: two parallel tracks. Fill your COMEDK options honestly for mid tier CSE, and at the same time evaluate whether a management quota seat at a stronger college is worth the difference to you. Our management quota fees guide explains what that route actually costs across colleges and branches.
85 to 100 Marks: Rank Roughly 8,000 to 15,000
What you can realistically get: CSE at Sir MVIT, REVA, CMRIT, BNM and similar colleges. At mid tier colleges generally, your branch choice widens considerably.
What to do: later counselling rounds matter a lot in this band. Cutoffs loosen as higher ranked candidates confirm seats elsewhere and withdraw, so do not treat round one as final. Stay in the process, keep your documents ready, and be prepared to move quickly when a seat opens.
65 to 85 Marks: Rank Roughly 15,000 to 30,000
What you can realistically get: CSE at newer and mid tier private colleges, and core branches such as Mechanical, Civil and EEE at a wide range of colleges including some well known names.
What to do: this is the band where the core branch option is genuinely worth taking seriously rather than treating as a consolation. Mechanical or Civil at a college with a strong campus and placement cell is a better four years than CSE at a college with neither. Compare placement data for the specific branch before deciding.
Below 65 Marks: Rank Above 30,000
What you can realistically get: seats appear mainly in later counselling rounds, in non core branches, or through the management quota route.
What to do: do not stop at the COMEDK result. Check your KCET position, look at later rounds seriously, and evaluate management quota at colleges where your budget works. A seat obtained in August at a reasonable college is a far better outcome than a year lost waiting for a better rank that may not come.

If Your Score Does Not Get You the Seat You Want
Three routes remain open, and they are not mutually exclusive:
- Change the branch, keep the college. ISE and ECE run looser than CSE at the same institution, often by a wide margin. Core branches run looser still.
- Stay in later counselling rounds. Cutoffs relax between rounds as candidates withdraw. Families who disengage after round one routinely miss seats that opened in round two.
- Apply for a management or institutional seat in parallel. This is allotted outside the merit list entirely, so it costs you nothing to pursue alongside counselling. If you or a close relative holds NRI status, also compare the NRI quota route, which uses supernumerary seats and is often less contested for high demand branches.
Frequently Asked Questions
What rank does 100 marks in COMEDK get?
Typically a General Merit rank in the region of 5,000 to 8,000, extending past 8,000 in years when the paper is easier and scores bunch higher. That puts CSE at colleges like BIT, BMSIT, NMIT and JSS Academy in reach, but not RVCE, MSRIT or BMSCE.
What rank does 120 marks in COMEDK get?
Roughly 1,300 to 2,500 for General Merit. BMSCE CSE is borderline at that rank, while BMSCE ISE and ECE and DSCE CSE are more comfortably available.
Is 90 marks a good score in COMEDK?
90 marks falls in the 8,000 to 15,000 rank band, which opens CSE at colleges such as Sir MVIT, REVA and CMRIT, and gives wide branch choice at mid tier colleges. It is a workable score, particularly if you stay engaged through later counselling rounds.
Is there negative marking in COMEDK UGET?
COMEDK has not applied negative marking in recent years, which is why attempting every question is the standard strategy. Always confirm the marking scheme in the current year’s official information brochure before the exam.
Do these ranks apply to reserved categories?
No. All figures on this page are General Merit. SC, ST, OBC, Hyderabad Karnataka and Kannada medium candidates receive relaxed cutoffs at every band, so your effective reach is better than the table suggests.
Can I improve my rank after results are declared?
No. The rank is fixed once results are published. What you can still control is your option entry strategy, your participation in later rounds, and whether you pursue a management or institutional seat in parallel.
Should I wait for COMEDK results before exploring management quota?
No. Management seats are finite and fill through the same months as counselling. Running both tracks in parallel costs you nothing, because you can always decline a management seat if your merit allotment comes through.
